  1. I was hoping there was a picture. Actually it just looks like you are going for punk rock, which is obviously more male dominated, but there's plenty of female punks. I wonder what would be less funny to a mom--her daughter getting a mohawk, or her sons running around in a dress? Both could be funny, of course.

  2. I share a very similar background as I am also the baby of the family and have an older brother, who is six years older than me. Growing up, I was always hanging out with boys. All of my cousins were boys until I was about ten years old, and all of the kids in the neighborhood were males as well, so naturally I played with them. I would much rather be playing sports and running around outside than playing dolls, painting nails, or doing "makeovers." I was definitely a tom boy, and my mom was seriously depressed. I remember her taking me to the American Girl store in Chicago, buying me tons of barbies, and trying to get me to wear anything but basketball shorts that went past my knees or a hat turned backwards. During my soccer and basketball games when I was a kid, my mom was so concerned that I looked like such a boy that she made me wear a bow in my hair every time. The fact that she was so concerned with my boy-like qualities at a young age still makes me laugh today because the tables have certainly turned. Although I would still prefer to watch an athletic event instead of a fashion show, I definitely dress and act very much like a girl today. While I am glad that I have learned to embrace my femininity (as is my mother), I often will look back at old pictures of me in my "tom boy" days and just burst out laughing. I agree with KK in the fact that our pasts are not meant to define who we are today but are simply humorous reminders of how our lives change, typically for the better.
