  1. I worry about the same thing. Laughter can be very menacing and times. there's a close connection between malicious laughter and what people perceive to be unfair treatment. My brother and I would always make fun of things around my grandmother, and I think she interpreted this as hostility. Luckily, she's fairly forgiving. It sounds like this was maybe a more extreme circumstance, in that she was actually making a joke at her sister's expense, but it's a lesson to keep in mind that jokes really have to be amusing to other people. It's what distinguishes sarcasm that even the butt of the joke can appreciate from just being outright rude.
